About the event
Suresvara dasa Vanacari joined the Hare Krishna movement in July 1970. He received 1st & 2nd initiations in 1971 and 1972 while serving in New Vrindaban. Over the years Suresvara's service has revolved around Srila Prabhupada's books--reading and studying them since 1970, distributing them since 1972, indexing them at the BBT (1976-1980),writing articles based on them since 1979, and teaching from them in Sridham Mayapur (2009-2016). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language from Hawaii Pacific University (2006).
In 2011, while teaching at the Mayapur Institute, Suresvara’s concern over how distant many younger devotees were from Srila Prabhupada reached a tipping point, so that spring he conceived and began researching a seminar series he would call “Srila Prabhupada, Our Founder-Acarya.” With the blessings of the GBC’s Strategic Planning Network, Suresvara has been presenting his founder-acarya seminars around the ISKCON world ever since. To help commemorate ISKCON’s 50th anniversary, he wrote ten articles for Back To Godhead based on his series’ ten lessons. In 2014, at the request of senior godbrothers, Suresvara accepted the service of initiating spiritual master.
Owing to his constant travel and conviction that devotees need local gurus, he has been reluctant to initiate disciples, but since he has recently put down roots at ISKCON Tucson (USA), devotees have requested him to cast aside that reluctance. He is honored to serve in the SGGS’s SABHA initiative to help the GBC refine its governance of Srila Prabhupada’s International Society for Krishna Consciousness.
